The annual initiative is part of a national effort to make arts and culture accessible to everyone by highlighting free cultural attractions and events in communities across the country. In Ottawa, attractions listed include ticket-free events at the National Arts Centre, the Ottawa International Animation Festival’s Family Day on September 23, and the second weekend of the West End Studio Tour on September 23. and September 24. The festivities also include digital events such as a work-in-progress dance by Take Up Space writer-dancer Elizabeth Emond-Stevenson and a series of online presentations by members of the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective, including a video project who deplores the decline of American eels in the Ottawa River. Other events take place in Brockville and Prescott-Russell.
