There’s nothing more touching than a hand-drawn gift from a little one. You can hang it in the fridge, but why stop there? Imagine the look on their faces when you bring their designs to life. It’s easy to do with this AI-powered tool.
How to turn drawings into animations
Parents and grandparents, this one is fun. Take one of your children’s drawings. Preferably a character on a plain white sheet. Take a picture or scan it, and you’ll be five minutes away from something really new.
Cartoons is an in-browser widget that lets you animate anything.
The process is simple:
- Download any design at sketch.metademolab.com/canvas. To note: You’ll have to agree to a privacy disclaimer, so avoid uploading photos that contain identifying information.
- Crop the image so the drawing is on its own. Ideally, on a solid and coherent background.
- Use the pencil and eraser tools to help the AI isolate the character from the surrounding background.
- Line up the puppet armature with your child’s drawing, using the labels above the UI to guide your hand. There is articulation for the knees, shoulders, center of the head, eyes, etc. Match everything as best you can.
After finalizing your character design, you can either go back and readjust or choose one of the many stock animation presets. Your new animation can dance, walk, jump, and even shadowbox itself. Talk about adorable, and it’s a great way to kill 20 minutes at home.

Once the animation is finalized, you can share it on social networks, send it to your phone or email or start from scratch. We hope the cartoons will encourage your children to further explore their artistic talents while bringing your family closer together.
